Someone caught your eye, but you are too shy to say hi? Wave

Relax, you do not need a chat-up line. Wave. Leave a WaveSign. Let yourself be found. Maybe that is how your story begins. WaveSign is a free notice board for situations like this. You write down where and when it was, plus a few words about that person and about yourself. If they look at the map and recognise the entry, they write to you. There is no account, and nobody gets to see your e-mail address.

Sometimes one gesture is enough to take the first step.

You waved

  1. When your eyes meet, wave. You do not have to say anything, although a quiet "wavesign.me" helps a lot.
  2. Then leave a WaveSign. Write where it was and at what time, what the other person looked like and how they can tell the entry is about them. If you wanted to say something, say it here.
  3. Confirm your e-mail address with the link in our mail. A reply comes to that address, but the other person does not see it until you write back.

Someone waved at you

  1. Someone smiled at you and waved, and you have no idea what that was about? Enter the place and roughly the time. Entries stay on the map for 30 days.
  2. If an entry describes you, reply from the card. You do not have to write much.
  3. Nothing yet? Look again in a day or two. You can also leave an entry of your own, then that person finds you.

Where it happens

A few typical places, and what is worth writing so that the other person recognises the situation.

Questions shy people ask

Does this not come across as pushy?

No. Nobody gets a notification or a message. The entry just sits on the map, and the other person decides whether to look for it and whether to reply. After 30 days it disappears.

What do I write so that they recognise me?

What they could have noticed themselves: where you sat, what you wore, what you were doing. Add what you wanted to say to them. Ordinary sentences will do.

I did not even dare to wave. Can I still leave an entry?

You can. Quite a few people look at the map out of curiosity, so an entry makes sense without the gesture too. The wave only raises the chance that the person knows where to look.

What does the other person see?

The place, the time and what you wrote in the descriptions. Not your e-mail address. Their reply arrives there, and only when you write back do they learn your address.

What if nobody replies?

The entry disappears after 30 days, and nobody can see that it got no reply. Maybe the person does not know WaveSign or did not look at the map. Next time you can say "wavesign.me" while you wave.

And the wave?

WaveSign started with a gesture. You wave at someone you do not dare to approach and say "wavesign.me". That person then knows where to look for you, and you do not have to think of something to say. If you only got here now, at least you know what the wave means the next time you see one.
